Topless America is a group of students, artist, and activist on a mission to document the fight against mountaintop removal mining and the destruction caused by America’s coal industry on the land and people of the Appalachian Mountains. Our goal is to raise the public’s awareness to the origin of their electricity and support a change in the way America thinks about it’s energy. We support all artistic formats that educate people on mountaintop removal mining and the devastation to the Appalachian Mountains.

We hope to involve others who share our respect for the mountains and people who live on and around them. Also, we wish to provide opportunities for Americans to learn about mountaintop removal mining which is causing irreversible damage to our environment, our country, and our people. Although not all of us are native to regions directly effected by mountaintop removal, our dedication to the preservation of mountain heritage is sincere and our determination to stop the razing of our national landscape is resolute.

Topless America is a collaboration stemming from many different backgrounds, both geographical and cultural. We are students and teachers, artists and professionals, democrats and republicans, brothers and sisters, working together to end mountaintop removal. Our goal is to prove that people working together can create positive change. This project is not just a documentary, it is a story about real people born into the world at a time when we are rapidly destroying it. We are dedicated to the preservation and protection of the land and people of America.
